Dow Corning’s Cosmetic Powder Masks Wrinkles

The new Dow Corning 9701 Cosmetic Powder absorbs sebum and provides a a smooth, powdery feel, according to the company. It provides formulators new options in addressing the growing premium skin care market.

A spherical silicone elastomer powder coated with silica, Dow Corning 9701 Cosmetic Powder (INCI name: Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer [and] Silica), can be used in a wide range of color cosmetic, skin care and sun care products.

The composition absorbs fluid and enables the powder to flow freely without agglomeration, providing superior handling and processing ease. Easy dispersion in different media—even in the presence of pigments—makes it possible to introduce the product into a wide variety of formulations without using sophisticated processes or equipment. In addition, Dow Corning 9701 Cosmetic Powder shows very low sensory threshold values with a pleasant, non-tacky, silky and powdery feel on the skin. More info: www.dowcorning.com/personalcare.

EMD Introduces New Pigment Technology

New pigments for cosmetic applications have been introduced by EMD Chemicals Inc., the North American Specialty Chemicals affiliate of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany.

Under the brand name Xirona, Merck KGaA has developed several color travel pigments based on mica and silica for innovative pearlescent pigments. Xirona Golden Sky is represented by a high luster and color travel that changes depending on the angle.

Bi-functional pigments starring Timiron BF-1001 combine the properties of pearl luster pigments with the microbiological stabilization of cosmetic formulations.

The development of the Timiron BF-1001 pigment improves the microbiological stability of cosmetic formulations and multi-purpose skin care activities and provides a safe toxicological profile and easy formulation.

Timiron BF-1001 provides microbiological stabilization. Tests show that cosmetic formulations with 2% Timiron BF-1001 showed very encouraging results. Because Timiron BF-1001 influences the overproduction of microorganisms of the normal skin microflora, it is ideal for skin care products.

Timiron BF-1001 has a particle size range of 5–25 µm. According to the company, it can be easily incorporated into water and oil based systems, and is pH and thermally stable. More info: www.emdchemicals.com.
